In meditation the other evening I checked in with my guides to ask, ‘What’s the most powerful thing for me to share right now?’
The answer came swift and clear and simple: sadness.
And although I was surprised, I immediately knew the sadness they were referring to.
It’s a sadness I lived with for much of my adult life.
A sadness that sits in the belly, weighing you down and making it hard to surface each morning.
A sadness that dulls your eyes and keeps you subtly disconnected from even those closest to you.
A sadness that hangs like a grey fog, blocking you from life’s deepest joy and richest experiences.
This is the sadness of not being fully expressed in the world.
The sadness of holding back and stuffing your creative ideas, impulses and inspirations into a dark cupboard marked, ‘Not for me’.
The sadness of following a path that’s not yours, a path that’s based on the perceived expectations of others, a path that’s paved with countless ‘shoulds’.
The sadness that looks like ‘My life is great’ from the outside, but leaves you feeling dead inside.
Ah yes, THAT sadness.
It’s one that can be hard to recognise, acknowledge and share. Because in the scheme of things, in these challenging and turbulent times, is being fully expressed and allowing your creativity to flow REALLY that important?
Well, unbound one, yes it is.
We are all creative beings. And, even if your first thought is, ‘No, not me’, when we don’t allow that part of us to be expressed in the world, something inside us shrivels up, hardens, becomes stagnant and heavy.
Most people are living with this sadness without being aware of it.
This sadness has become normal, something that just is.
But when you allow even one creative idea, impulse or inspiration to flow through you,
When you give voice to your soul in some way,
Something comes alive.
You free up energy, things start to move and your world, THE world responds.
You can feel it immediately. Long forgotten, ignored and suppressed parts of you awaken.
You feel more whole, more grounded in the world, stronger.
You start to experience more moments of pure joy and connection.
And when you ARE sad or angry or lost, you can see the beauty in that too.
You are.
And the Universe is cheering you on.
So, if you’re feeling that sadness right now, or it’s familiar to you, take a moment now.
Feel the sadness as a sensation in your body. Give it space. Acknowledge its presence.
And let this part of you know you’re willing to express something new in the world.
Something brave.
Something you.
